A beautiful coastal city located just 35 miles northeast of Manhattan, Stamford, Connecticut has had many changing faces over the past century, evolving from the major port between New Haven and New York City at the turn of the 20th century, to "The Research City" in the 1970s, to the third-largest corporate center in the country in the 1980s. The city's latest evolution began in the late 1990s, as Stamford cemented its status as a major financial center.
Stamford real estate offers a variety of living options that fit the many needs of its diverse population of 117,000 residents. The city has both urban and suburban elements, from the multi-acred wooded lots in North Stamford, to beautiful shoreline areas, such as Shippan Point and Dolphin Cove. Signficant new high-rise residential development is being done in the downtown area, with condominiums and apartments ranging from "affordable" to high-end luxurious residences.
Downtown Stamford offers a variety of shopping, fine dining, entertainment and other attractions, including the 1,700-plus seat Palace Theater, home to the nationally-recognized Stamford Symphony Orchestra and the Connecticut Opera, plus the Stamford Center for the Arts, which includes two theaters. The city's proximity to The Big Apple opens a whole other world of entertainment options, from Broadway to Times Square. The Metro North railroad can get you to New York City's Grand Central Station in 46 minutes, with ample parking at the Stamford train station. Stamford is also a stop on the Acela, the high-speed train between Washington, D.C. and Boston. |
